Jamakeer Guard reinforcements!

So, painting of the PDF continues apace, and I've got another few units done, which can be seen below, but first up, here's a shot of the army in it's entirety so far:

Probably a mistake, but I've continued with specialist units, rather than the rank and file. I must try to intersperse the standard units into the ones that are more interesting to paint! You may notice that I've not done any unit insignia yet. Once I've got enough painted I'm going to custom print some decals for the whole army, so I'll do them all at once at the end.

First up is VII Company (Support) Combat Engineer Platoon with their C.E.R (Combat Engineer Rhino)

More info and photos after the cut...

I've tried to make the Combat Engineers as varied as possible to show what their capabilities are. Unusually the platoon has 3 officers, one Captain in overall strategic command and 2 Sergeants able to lead sections to undertake specific tasks.

Here, (l-r) we have Private Bradshaw, a Demolitions Expert with Thunder Hammer, Sergeant Harper with a multi-laser 'Volley' variant, Captain Sharpe, Sergeant Hakeswill with Chainsword and Private Cooper with Shovel.

The other half of the Platoon is made up of Private Dodd with Missile Launcher, Privates Hagman and Harris with lasguns, Private Hine with explosives and axe, and finally Private Millerson with combat shotgun.

Their battlefield transport is the C.E.R (Combat Engineer Rhino), a heavily modified Rhino variant kitted out with a range of engineer-specific  adaptations. These include a bulldozer blade at the front, A turret mounted heavy flamer, twin missile launchers, and a crane at the back. It also has a selection of tools, long range radio comms and towing facilities for recovering other tanks.

Next up are I Company 'A' Platoon 'Pathfinders'. These are all Native Jamakeer Desert warriors, an elite unit used as scouts for the main force. As elite veterans, they are allowed to customise their uniforms to a degree not permitted in the main bulk of the army, but still retaining remnants of their original blue uniforms.

These are actually old Demonblade(?) feral Elves, but they work really well. I've converted a couple very slightly just to add some variation.

These are accompanied by a specialist tracker, who uses an Argosian Nosehound to seek out snipers and other hidden enemy troops.

No Imperial Guard Army, Planetary Defence Force or no, is complete without at least one Commissar. This one is equipped with a jetbike to allow him to traverse the battlefield at will, 'encouraging' the troops where needed.

Next up is a Land Speeder, part of V Company. This is a 'Suidae' class Anti-Tank variant. One of the seats has been replaced with an autocannon, enabling it to take out heavier targets.

and finally V Company (Cavalry), 'A' Platoon on Bullock jetbikes.

So, there you go! I'm still painting away with plenty more PDF troops to come!

  2. Absolutely awesome - loving all the old school guard models (really takes me back) and the rhino is a great bit of kitbashing. Good stuff!

  5. Man, you've been busy! I love all of them, but if I were to pick an unit, it would be the engineers. The whole pack looks amazing!

  6. Each photo was better than the previous one - I nearly fell off my chair when I saw the Bullock squad. I used to dream of armies like that when I was a lad. The conversions look seamless - I particularly like the las volley gun. Looking forward to seeing more!

  8. Brilliant! I love the way you seamlessly mix old and new components, as well as Citadel and non-Citadel figures, to make a really coherent force. Those Engineers are the brilliant!

  9. Fantastic Army, I love the cavalry on Jet Bikes! It makes me want to dig out Rogue Trader and the Compendium.

  10. Excellent! I particularly like the engineering platoon.

And those Shockforce/Demonblade feral elves hold up quite well despite their age and long ago low price. The "totally not a lasgun, honest" guns fit in quite well with the others in your force too.
