Araby project: The Army of the Great Sultan (so far!)

As well as the Mad Mullah's Death Commandos and the siege cannon, I've been working on a few other units for my Araby army project, so I thought I'd post a bit of an update if you're interested.

Here's what I've got done so far:

More photos after the cut:

First up is the Great Sultan on his dragon, Tanin Al-Azraq. This is a Gripping Beast model mounted on the old Dragon Masters DRAG7 Dragon.

Another Nick Bibby sculpt, this is one of my favourite dragons, after the Great Spined dragon:

Next up is the Great Sultan's Primary General, Sheikh Ibn Sasan (c), with his Dwarven advisor, Qasir Al-Mustadir. Next to them (r) is one of the infamous assassins of the Hashishim:

The army's primary wizard is the legendary Jabir Ibn Hayyam, seen here with his familiar/bodyguard Bubo, a clockwork brass falcon:

The army's chief religious advisor is the Imam Musa Al-Ramza, along with another battle wizard and his familiar, this time on a flying carpet:

Next up is four Nomad Hunters, expert snipers with long-range jezzails who roam the battlefield picking off officers and other important targets from a great distance:

As seen in my other post, the first actual unit is the legendary Death Commandos of the Mad Mullah Acklan'd:

Next up is a unit of Black Guard, the army's elite troops:

These are from the old Harlequin fantasy Saracen range, sadly now OOP, as they'd be ideal for this army.

Another unit of Black Guards, this time armed with two-handed weapons, and more of the Harlequin models, although the rear rank have been converted, as I may use eventually these guys as guards for an Araby war altar:

A unit of heavily armed and armoured Corsairs, these are hardened pirates of Arabyan legend. Model-wise they're Warriors of Pan Tang from the Citadel Eternal Champion range. Not particularly Arabyan, but they look 'other' enough to work, I think, and with their aquatic-themed headgear made of fish and octopus stylings makes them ideal for sea pirates:

Next is a unit of Dervishes, religious fanatics armed with hand weapons and flaming torches, and led by a suitably crazed hero. I think these are from Westwind, I've had them sat in a box for 15 years or so. The leader is a Haradrim guard from GW's current Lord of the Ring's range.

The siege cannon that you've already seen is next:

The first of the monsters is a rare Arabyan Desert Giant. In this case he's armed with a rather large scimitar, and a huge musket, allowing him to work as a mobile, if ponderous artillery:

A Djinn, the capricious air elemental:

And finally an Efreet, a vicious type of fire elemental found in the Arabyan deserts, originally a C29 Winged Fire Demon from the mid 80s:

I've still got a bunch more stuff to get painted, including more rank and file, as well as the flying carpets and all the cavalry!
