Time for a super-sized big special boy!

Don't talk to me or my son ever again!

So, here's a fun experiment in 3d printing, I bought a digital fan sculpt of the limited edition 30th anniversary Space Marine figure, and thought I’d see how far I could push the size. This is 500% over standard, it stands well over 6” tall, and this was about the limit of what my 3d printer could manage to fit, even in pieces. He was pretty fun to paint, as I really don’t usually work on anything this large!

*Taps Microphone* Is anybody still here?

Ok, I'll be honest, I've neglected this blog for the shiny lights of Facebook groups and Instagram for a while now, but I've come to the conclusion that it's all so transient and impermanent, so I'm thinking about getting back on here and posting a bit more often.

That does, however, beg the question, is anyone still on here? I can post all I like, but if no one actually sees it, I may as well just print out a scrapbook and read it at home!

So, what have I been up to? I've been learning 3d sculpting, printing big things and doing more Altheim buildings mostly, with some ww2 and Trench Crusade in there as well, with a few commissions along the way. I've actually been pretty productive in the last year or so, So here's a few bits I've got done recently:

Back to the obscure: Rogue Trader 40k Minotaurs!

If you've followed my blog for any length of time, you'll know I'm probably one of the most pointlessly contrary gamers out there. I'm drawn to unloved armies, obscure models, ranges that never got filled out, pointless rarities and even the downright odd when it comes to Warhammer and Citadel Miniatures.

Pointless rarities and downright odd are definitely two phrases that come to mind with today's post, the two Rogue Trader Minotaurs:

Middlehammer fun! Egrimm Van Horstmann on Chaos Dragon

So, a long time in the making, but this is my latest commission, a big old mid-90s character model:

Egrimm Van Horstmann was a Chaos Sorceror of Tzeentch, but formerly a wizard of the Imperial Colleges who turned to The Dark Gods, here mounted on Baudros, his two-headed Chaos Dragon.

The D'Oberoc Company, a Nordland Mercenary warband.

So, it's been a bit of a dry spell on the painting front, as summer tends to get in the way of sitting inside all day and painting, but I've finally finished a small(ish) warband project I've been working on occasionally for a while now.

This time it's another project tangentially related to my Altheim project. Altheim is based in Nordland, and so these guys are a small mercenary warband based in Nordland, the D'oberoc Company

The D'Oberocs mustering their company on the main Altheim square

Back in the swing of things: Eldar diplomatic landing party

I'm finally able to paint again, which pleases me immensely, and in between catching up on commission work, I've been working on a small group of Eldar to ease me back into painting, and this is what I've got done so far:

As usual, more details after the cut:

Do What Thou Wilt... Perdurabo and Choronzon arrive at the Port.

Another couple of ne'er-do-wells have arrived at the Port on an unsanctioned transporter, the notorious Rogue Psyker known as Perdurabo, and his Xenos sidekick, Choronzon:

(Also, sorry for yet another long delay in updating, I've been working on commission jobs recently, and they're all fairly modern and not in keeping with the theme of the blog, so I've not bothered putting them up in here!)

More details and photos of the models after the cut, as usual...

A Squat Inquisimunda Warband (with an unusual associate!)

Time for another fun little project, this time a small Squat warband I've just finished as a commission (hence the lack of basing, the client will be doing that.)

6 Squats, and an Eldar Trader, an unusual mix to be sure, but they work together surprisingly well I think:

It's Undead time! 1994 GW Zombie Dragon with Lahmian Rider!

So, time for another commission job I've got finished recently, and I really enjoyed painting and converting this one!

MB07 Marauder Giant finished!

So, one of my favourite models of all time is the Marauder MB07 Giant, and I've finally been able to paint one. It's a commission job, as he's too expensive these days for me to warrant buying, but still, it was a lovely model to paint, proper bucket list stuff:

Shorty the Halfsknechte thinks he might not quite be up to the job he was hired for...

How many Necromancers does it take to change a lightbulb?

Six! One to actually change the bulb, and five to stand around a pentagram, chanting into the darkness!

Those Necromancers sure do like pointing at things!

Anyway, in between doing the Altheim project, I've decided to paint up a few of the 'homeless' models I've bought over the years that don't really fit into any particular projects, and the first bag I found was of some wizards, so I thought I'd get a few done to go with a couple I'd already got painted up.

Introducing 'Shortround', Port Imperiale's premier Nightclub owner...

So, after doing another pointlessly large, tightly themed build recently, I thought I'd paint up a few smaller single figures to relax a bit, and this is one of them. Any port would have plenty of bars and nightclubs, so this is Shortround, a Ratling Impresario!

Tanglegenes and his Retinue...

Well, I've not managed to paint anything much since my last post, but finally had a couple of days at the painting desk over the Bank Holiday here in the UK, so I thought I'd show you what I've been up to...

'The Pride of Jamakeer' - A 'Maelstrom' Class Light Cargo Carrier - Finished!

Well, here you go, I finally finished the 'Maelstrom' Class cruiser and my word, it's a biggie...

In fact it's not just a biggie, it's positively huge, coming in at just over 20 inches long! It's by far the largest 40k model I've ever made. There's a load more photos after the cut, if you're so inclined...

Space Slann: Reinforcements!

Here's another quick photo update, showing a few more odds and sods I've done for my Space Slann army, (Main post *here*) consisting of an Orbital Transport, a heavy weapon and a crewmember.

Rogue Trader: Eastenders Edition...

The best used droids on Jamakeer!

So, a while ago I did a small tutorial on making some market stalls (*here*), and I've finally got around to painting them, along with some characters to staff them, so here they are!

The 'Maelstrom' Class Light Cargo Lugger

So, as I mentioned in my last post, there's an even bigger ship on the block, and here it is, the 'Maelstrom' Class Light Cargo Lugger.

Crashed 'Rover' Class Cargo Lugger update..

Just a minor progress update today, As I decided I'd get the airbrush and compressor out of storage and give 'em a go again, for about the first time in 8 years.

Paint was chosen for me, as it was about the only one of my Vallejo paints that hadn't run out/dried up. I've since re-ordered a bunch of Vallejo Model Air paints, but thought yellow was a good way to go anyway:

Altheim invaded...

Another small update today, but as I've started on my undead army, I thought I'd put up a few of the undead I've just painted up.

The Altheim Militia face off against their resurrected former comrades.

The Enigma of Abdul Goldberg

The mysterious Abdul Goldberg, in the flesh...

So one of the Facebook 40k groups I'm a member of, 'The Emporium of Rogue Dreams', is having a competition to make a model, background and statline for 'Abdul Goldberg', a famous villain from the early Rogue Trader days. I've spent a lot of time working out how to fit Abdul into both Rogue Trader and 'current' 40k, and so here's my background fluff. Sorry, there's a lot of it, and it probably bends canon until it makes squeaking noises, but there y'go, that's just how I roll...
