So, as I mentioned in my last post, there's an even bigger ship on the block, and here it is, the 'Maelstrom' Class Light Cargo Lugger.
More photos after the cut...
This is by far the largest ship I've built to date, and, along with the 'Rover' class wreck I've already shown you, neatly uses up nearly all of the spare parts I've built up by buying miscasts and other assorted junk kits on eBay over the last few years.
Front View
With this one, I've gone for a ship that's landed and is in the process of being loaded/unloaded, as that suits the Port Imperiale background fluff. As you can see from the back, there's a large set of open doors, with a ramp into a huge cargo bay that takes up almost the entire ship. Armaments are minimal, so in dangerous areas it needs to run in a convoy with fighters to offer protection.
Rear View
Parts-wise, there are bits of Thunderhawk transport in there, and most of a Caestus Assault Ram, along with bits of Storm Raven, Valkyrie, Inquisitor Scenery and even the odd bit of Ork Trukk!
I now really need to decide what colour to paint it though. I've got a large blue ship, and a large yellow one, so I really need to think of a good scheme for this one. It's meant to be a commercial transport, so ideally some sort of livery would be good.
Other side
This last guy's a pilot I've recently painted up, he's one of the 4A range, and a nice figure. I'm particularly happy with the camo trousers.
A Veteran Pilot
:O :O :O
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I would have never thought of a miscasts market. Bloody gorgeous! Your latest works are enormously inspirational!
wow wow wow. wow. Great work on that.
ReplyDeleteAs for color, suggest something reminiscent of tramp steamer. Lower hull in red orange, upper in black, details in white with some big logo on the side.
Ooh, great idea, thanks! I'll take a look at some of the old ocean liner liveries.
DeleteBrilliant work, that is very very impressive!
ReplyDeleteHoly crap, that's entirely made up of miscasts and odd bits?
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing!
As for paint jobs try looking at pictures of HGV Hualage Trucks for some insperation....
For a commercial transport you might go with a black hull the better to conceal the carbon scorching from reentry with minimal repainting, white topsides for easier temperature regulation, and maybe funnel colors on the tail. Lots of options there. You could even pick a historic line, if you wanted and extrapolate that they're around thirty odd thousand years in the future: NYK has fairly distinctive funnel colors. Mitsui-OSK (or MOL) and Hapag-Lloyd would also be good candidates. As would Maersk, Yang-Ming, COSCO, American President (APL), Evergreen . . . I suppose you could even speculate on a company like Carnival going into shipping. Anyway . . . cool project, however you color it.
