Time for a super-sized big special boy!

Don't talk to me or my son ever again!

So, here's a fun experiment in 3d printing, I bought a digital fan sculpt of the limited edition 30th anniversary Space Marine figure, and thought I’d see how far I could push the size. This is 500% over standard, it stands well over 6” tall, and this was about the limit of what my 3d printer could manage to fit, even in pieces. He was pretty fun to paint, as I really don’t usually work on anything this large!

More photos after the cut...

Here he is in all his sticky glory, emerging from the magical gloop. There were two full plates of bits, the gun was the longest part and only just fit on the build plate.

And here he is, loosely assembled with blue-tac after i'd finished cleaning him up.

All in all, I was really pleased with how he came out, both the print and the paintjob. The size of him gave me an excuse to get the airbrush out and do some shading effects to brak up the large flat areas.

Anyway, here he is in all his painted glory. I was particularly pleased with his freehand shoulder logo, as frankly I'm terrible at freehand anything.

He’s basically a garden gnome at this point, and I'm now wondering how feasible it is to print out a bunch more and play Inquisitor at 162mm scale in the garden...

    1. It was a fun project to do, pushing the limits of both the detail on a normally small model and also my printer's capabilities!
