So, I'll start by saying that Dark Future is probably my favourite GW universe, Carl Critchlow is one of my favourite artists, and that this piece of Dark Future artwork by Carl is probably one of my favourite pieces of GW art:
So, as a follow up to this post (also all the way back in 2018!) where I copied another piece of Dark Future art to make a vehicle, I thought I'd do the same with the pirate radio truck, and here it is!
All the details after the cut....
A whole load of original pieces of Carl's art came up for auction back in 2018, including this piece, but I was sadly outbid on it, mainly as I'd already bought these two and run out of money:
As the tech has moved on a bit in the last seven years(!) I decided to design it in Blender and 3d print it this time.
These are a few of the renders from when I was designing it, as there's only the front and side, I needed to work out what to do with the rest of the truck, as well as design an interior:
Radio Chaos rides again!
A mobile pirate radio station needs some hefty speakers!
The other side has the door to the studio.
The interior, showing the DJ decks and studio record collection.
The amplifiers and technical side of the studio.
As well as the truck, I also decided to model of the DJ. In a nod to the Max Headroom film and TV series (seriously, one of the best dark scifi franchises of the 1980s!), he's called Blank Reg, after this guy:
In the Max Headroom universe, 'Blanks' are people who have successfully erased all of their official records from government systems, and live illegally under the radar. Blank Reg runs Bigtime Television, an illegal pirate TV station, but in the Dark Future universe he now runs Radio Chaos, a pirate radio station.
Anyway, on to the painted model! The posters are printed out, stuck on, then varnished over the top before weathering them.
And on to Reg, who's based on one of the original Confrontation Bounty Hunter models.
Reg imparting some valuable advice to Maxwell: Keep the cat in, and the cops out!
This is another one I really enjoyed working on, albeit it took me about 8 months on and off to get it finally finished!
