"Meet the gang 'cause the boys are here - The boys to eviscerate you!"

So, Lords, ladies, gentlemen and Xenos scum, I can finally present you the brave pensioners (and only surviving members) of the 6th Mordian Regiment, also known as the 'Flying Ripperfish' (Retd.) currently on the run from the mandatory retirement planet Chel-5EA.

More details after the cut...

So, having got back into the swing of things recently, I decided to finish off a long term project that had been sat on the desk, taunting me for months: a unit of pensioners that I'd had the idea about a long time ago, starting with 'Lucky' LaVarr (seen *here*), and then there was a discussion about how to take the idea further, and do a full unit. I've decided to alter my background slightly, and rather than there just being Lucky and his killbots, it's now a complete squad, with Lucky as a member, rather than sole survivor.

So, who are they?

Let's start with the Cap'n, as he's known as:

This is Captain 'Cap'n' Bagshot-Smythe III.  A former member of the Mordian Tetrarchy who committed some unknown dark deed many decades ago, leading to his disgrace and finally his running away to join the army as a lowly private 'to forget'. He eventually managed to rise to the rank of Captain, but his misfortune also endowed him with a permanent foul mood and utter disregard for the personal safety of both himself and his men. Whether he ever forgot or not is unknown.

Figure-wise, this is just the Cadian Castellan Creed model with a WFB Dwarf face and a Mordian cap on top.

Next up is his left hand man and trusty Lieutenant, 'Shiner' StJohn-Williams:

'Shiner Sinjin's' name is due to the sheer number of awards and medals he proudly wears at all times. Much like all these conversions, this guy is mainly made of the awesome Victoria Miniatures parts, with a random Victorian model head, along with assorted sculpted medals and skulls chopped off GW parts. At the back on all of them are the Cadian waterbottle and knives.

His 2IC is Sergeant Leonard 'Lemmy' Killmeister:

Sgt Killmeister can always be found smoking his Lho-Pipe, an antiquated narcotic habit totally against regulations, but he's retired, so he can do what he damn well pleases, just as he always has. As a model, again, mainly Vic minis and GW plastic parts. Also, this is my tribute to the late, lamented Lemmy, mainly due to his facial hair and long-term drug habit...

The wildcard (even moreso than the others!) in the unit is Private Robert 'Crazy Bob' Matuschka:

'Crazy Bob' is obsessed with blowing things up, and is usually to be found carrying an entire unit's supply of grenades about his person. He frequently charges off at random, blowing up whatever he currently considers to be the enemy.  Again, he's more Vic Minis parts, with a GW Empire head, and many, many Cadian grenades.

Next up, we have the aforementioned Private Jerry 'Lucky' LaVarr:

Lucky has already been discussed over on *this post*, so there's no reason going over him again here, but he was the origination of this idea.

Next in line is Private Joseph 'Lemon' Jefferson:

'Blind Lemon', as he's known in the unit, was permanently blinded by a nuclear flash during the successful reclaiming of the Feral world Preena IV. Whilst separated from his unit and stumbling blind, he was discovered by a Preenan Screech Owl. It formed an empathic bond, giving him the ability to see through its eyes in return for food. Preenan Screech Owls are incredibly popular with the Nobility as hunting birds, as they are able to give a literal 'birds eye view' of the hunt.
Again, the model is Vic Mini's parts with some random legs, and an Owl from a GW kit.

Private Peter 'Flaming' Dinsdale is the squad's flamer operator:

Flaming Dinsdale's mobility is limited, but a walking frame (and the odd suspensor) means he can still get in on the action, whether that's an enemy emplacement, or his next door neighbour's shed... Again, more Vic minis and GW parts, with a metal zimmer frame that I made.

The squad's main long-range firepower comes from Private 'Father' Jack Hackett:

(lots o' pics of this guy, as there's a lot to see!)

'Father Jack' generally makes very little sense, only muttering occasional swearwords since losing his leg (and mind!) to a landmine during the assault on Craggi II. Although nonsensical, the former commissar, once given his orders (and occasionally pointed in the right direction), is a powerful fighter, especially as his motorised wheelchair has been augmented with an auto-aiming Heavy Bolter.
Model-wise, this is by far my favourite, with the chair being from an old Rogue Trader Land Speeder (and a gift from an online friend, Mark Elster!) There are many other bits in there, from all sorts of makers, but with the obligatory Vic Minis bits in there.

Last (but certainly not least!) are Private Ichabod and Private Ichabod:

The Privates Ichabod are brothers, and whilst their bodies were damaged beyond repair in some long forgotten campaign, their brains were entombed within Regimental Killbots by a thoroughly disreputable surgeon with unpredictable effects. Affectionately known as 'Itchy' and 'Scratchy' within the unit, the Privates are inseparable, and due to their heavy duty Adamantium bodies, they are formidable on the battlefield, if occasionally subject to confusion.
Model-wise, these are old Paranoia robots, with backpacks, guns and with Mordian hats on.

So, there you go, I'm actually quite proud of these, it's an idea I had, and I've actually carried it out to completion, which is something that very rarely happens!

  1. These are bloody magnificent. No ifs, no buts - just the best thing I have seen in months. Immensely jealous I didn't come up with the idea.

  3. Splendid unit mate ! Everything from the very clever bits selection to the incredible backstory and the modelling and painting are great. These are just the kind of teams whose stories you want to follow.

  4. Awesome!!!

The back stories are hilarious and very creative. I like the walking frame flamer....I can envisage him making his way across the battlefield extremely slowly, but determined :)

The tail banner on the wheelchair is way cool :)

    Top job!

  5. Lovely stuff here. I love the mobility aids for the old timers. It's important to keep active later on in life!

  6. Just superb! Great paintwork, but the best bit is that they ooze character. Each figure is interesting on his own: an entire unit of them is even more awesome.
