And here it is, threatening the brave trouserless trooper with a short life as a host to a psychic entity.
There's more info and pics after the cut...
To start with, here's what the rulebook has to say about them:
As you can see from the description, Astral Spectres don't actually have any physical bodies in the material world, and so a model to represent them isn't really necessary for gaming purposes. Having said that, if they exhaust the body they're inhabiting in-game, then they have a chance of being able to take over another host, so a token of some description might be occasionally useful.
Anyway, here's what the rulebook put in as a depiction of an Astral Spectre:
Bit of a spooky ghost thing going on, there. And here's what I modelled to represent one:
I went for a kind of crawling horror theme, but with big grabby claw hands like the illustration. It's a WFB familiar I had knocking around, modified with plastic hands from some undead plastics I had in the bits box.
Here's a couple of other views:
As well as the Astral Spectre on the loose model, I also thought I'd make a model to represent a psyker that was currently possessed by one, and here he is:
As you can see, he's not very happy. He's bleeding from the eyes and there's steam coming out of his ears, so it's obviously not going to be long before our invading Astral Spectre will need to find a new host!
So, there you go, that's another one ticked off the list!

I love your head exploding fig. Seems like you should break it out for a blog post for some crazy news development in the future as well.
ReplyDeleteI, too, really like that possessed psyker! It came out very characterful and there is no doubt that something...odd...is happening to him. Looking forward to more!
ReplyDeleteHaha, I hadn't thought of a mini like that for the spectre, fun to see! But I do love the psyker! eally clever use of that head. The ears steam totally made my day! :D
ReplyDeleteThe bleeding eyes are a nice touch too. They really give you the sense of urgency.
ReplyDeleteExcellent job mate - tricky thing to represent, but I reckon you nailed it :-) (love that psyker too - poor chap!)
