A quick 2025 Review.

It seems like a bunch of other people are doing this, so thought I'd copy their lead, mostly to reassure myself I did actually get some hobby stuff done this year, as tbh, it's not felt very productive.

As you'll know if you follow my blog, I kind of stopped posting for a couple of years, a combination of hobby burnout, not feeling enthused about posting, and tbh wondering if the blog format was still worthwhile anymore, but I came back in March and decided to make a bit more of an effort.

This big guy was probably the catalyst for all that, as I really enjoyed printing, assembling and painting him:

Altheim Part 11: The Docks

Ok, so, time for a bit more Altheim. I've made a start on the docks area, so these are warehouses in the Dutch style, so narrow and tall, designed to fit side by side facing the docks, with living and working space above the storage area.

First up is the Becker Import Company warehouse, left to dereliction after being sealed up on the orders of the Guard due to irregularities with the quality of fish. Of course, the other story is that Old Man Becker wasn't paying enough in bribes to the Red Hand, a shadowy group of criminals that have high level connections and may or may not be secretly a choas cult...

The Changer of the Ways!

Something a bit unusual for me this time as I don't normally do bright colours on models, but here's the original model of the Greater Daemon of Tzeentch, the Changer of the Ways that came out for 3rd Edition WFB and Rogue Trader 40k.

As you can see, I've also gone for a neutral backdrop this time instead of a scenic one, I'm not sure which I prefer tbh. Anyway, more pics after the cut:

Bringing Dark Future artwork to life!

So, I'll start by saying that Dark Future is probably my favourite GW universe, Carl Critchlow is one of my favourite artists, and that this piece of Dark Future artwork by Carl is probably one of my favourite pieces of GW art:

So, as a follow up to this post (also all the way back in 2018!) where I copied another piece of Dark Future art to make a vehicle, I thought I'd do the same with the pirate radio truck, and here it is!

Is this the World's most expensive Ork Warbike?

In my never ending quest to create the most pointless conversions known to Warhammer, I knocked up this monstrosity (in the centre, between some of my other Warbikes!)  a while ago but never really got around to documenting it. So anyway, here it is, in all of it's limited release, Bob Olley, Iron Claw, Rogue Trader glory, the Vincent Orkshadow!

Time for a super-sized big special boy!

Don't talk to me or my son ever again!

So, here's a fun experiment in 3d printing, I bought a digital fan sculpt of the limited edition 30th anniversary Space Marine figure, and thought I’d see how far I could push the size. This is 500% over standard, it stands well over 6” tall, and this was about the limit of what my 3d printer could manage to fit, even in pieces. He was pretty fun to paint, as I really don’t usually work on anything this large!

Back with a bang, and a big one! The DRAG5 Great Imperial Dragon.

OK, here's a big one as my first return to blogging after about 18 months or so!

As I'm sure you're all aware, it's the Citadel DRAG5 Great Imperial Dragon, also known as Mordax, a Chaos cursed dragon that can never die, and also the mother of Kegox, the Chaos Dragon.

Lots more photos after the cut:

*Taps Microphone* Is anybody still here?

Ok, I'll be honest, I've neglected this blog for the shiny lights of Facebook groups and Instagram for a while now, but I've come to the conclusion that it's all so transient and impermanent, so I'm thinking about getting back on here and posting a bit more often.

That does, however, beg the question, is anyone still on here? I can post all I like, but if no one actually sees it, I may as well just print out a scrapbook and read it at home!

So, what have I been up to? I've been learning 3d sculpting, printing big things and doing more Altheim buildings mostly, with some ww2 and Trench Crusade in there as well, with a few commissions along the way. I've actually been pretty productive in the last year or so, So here's a few bits I've got done recently:

Back to the obscure: Rogue Trader 40k Minotaurs!

If you've followed my blog for any length of time, you'll know I'm probably one of the most pointlessly contrary gamers out there. I'm drawn to unloved armies, obscure models, ranges that never got filled out, pointless rarities and even the downright odd when it comes to Warhammer and Citadel Miniatures.

Pointless rarities and downright odd are definitely two phrases that come to mind with today's post, the two Rogue Trader Minotaurs:

Middlehammer fun! Egrimm Van Horstmann on Chaos Dragon

So, a long time in the making, but this is my latest commission, a big old mid-90s character model:

Egrimm Van Horstmann was a Chaos Sorceror of Tzeentch, but formerly a wizard of the Imperial Colleges who turned to The Dark Gods, here mounted on Baudros, his two-headed Chaos Dragon.

The D'Oberoc Company, a Nordland Mercenary warband.

So, it's been a bit of a dry spell on the painting front, as summer tends to get in the way of sitting inside all day and painting, but I've finally finished a small(ish) warband project I've been working on occasionally for a while now.

This time it's another project tangentially related to my Altheim project. Altheim is based in Nordland, and so these guys are a small mercenary warband based in Nordland, the D'oberoc Company

The D'Oberocs mustering their company on the main Altheim square

Nomad Carl the Zone Tripper, a Necromunda Hired Gun.

So, related to my previous post about the Nomad exploration vehicle, next up is Carl, a Nomad guide, and his Mark XIII servo skull:

"The Glass Flats, The Judas Sea, I go all over"

Carl is a mysterious, almost legendary figure, a Nomad 'Zone Tripper'. He travels the most dangerous areas of the Ash Wastes with his Mark XIII servoskull, searching out the hidden locations of salvageable artifacts. He takes what he can carry back then sells his services as a guide to other Nomads of the Scrapper Guild, so they can then strip out the rest of the salvageable items for recycling and sale.

Ash Wastes Nomads Exploration Vehicle.

As you can probably tell by the gap between updates, I'm not getting as much painting done as I really want to at the moment, but i did manage to get a vehicle finished after seeing the rumours about the Ash Wastes getting some treatment in Necromunda:

this is a follow on from my previous Ash Wastes Nomads post, so they have the start of a vehicle convoy to allow them easier travel through the wastelands.

Not only that, but they now have a mysterious guide, Carl, but more of him later...

As usual, more pics after the cut...

2021: A hobby retrospective.

This post is a bit of a look back on what I actually managed to get painted in 2021, as tbh, it felt like I didn't get much done, but I got more done than I originally thought, in retrospect.

My one big project this year was these Greenskins:

but there's more about them later.

The year was hindered somewhat for about a quarter of it by having problems with my medication, so looking back, what I got done in about nine months was even more productive!

Back in the swing of things: Eldar diplomatic landing party

I'm finally able to paint again, which pleases me immensely, and in between catching up on commission work, I've been working on a small group of Eldar to ease me back into painting, and this is what I've got done so far:

As usual, more details after the cut:

A quick explanation for my lack of updates.

Hi all, just wanted to give a quick update as to my recent online silence, here at least.

I'm still here, but I've been in the process of changing pain medication, which has unfortunately had the side effect of making my hands shake too much to paint. I'm now in the process of changing back to the original medication, but with them being quite powerful drugs, these things take time.

In the meantime I've finally had the chance to play with the 3d printer I bought earlier this year and made a start on learning Blender, so I can actually design things I want to paint!

For my first project I decided to make a 40k version of the LeHaitre tracked motorbike/thing from the 1930s, which is this:

As you can see, it's a pretty wacky looking thing to start with, and I thought it would suit 40k really well. I specifically wanted to use them for a small Tallarn project I've been thinking about doing for years, with them working as a ww2 Long Range Desert Group (LRDG) reconnaissance and raiding style unit.

Once I'd had the idea, I went on a search around the internet to see if anyone else had already made one of these, but it didn't look like they had, so obviously I decided to do it myself.

As for the modelling, I've never done any 3d design before, so I probably went in at the deep end a bit with this, but after a few weeks on and off, (I'm limited to 30-45 mins max at the pc before my left arm goes numb, so learning anything takes a while these days!) I finally came up with a prototype:

the twin bolters I found online for free, and the baggage and legs are from file sets I bought. Hopefully the paid files will just be placeholders for a time until I get my head around sculpting organic objects and I can replace them. once I'd got the basics done, I decided to work on a Tallarn variant:

I swapped out the RT bolters for a multi-laser, and the rider for a Tallarn style one I heavily converted from one I found online. I then decided to make variants of the riders, and do a variant with a towbar so it can pull the wheeled heavy weapons:

The guy on the left is now holding a 2nd Ed 40k era Bolter, and the heavy weapon (unassembled so far, it's been sat with the rest of the project for years now!) can latch onto the back if wanted.

So, yeah, that's basically what I've been up to. I must admit, I'm pretty happy with how far I've managed to get with it, both with the design, and the quality of the printed results. Now I just need to finalise the design to make it print more easily and fit together a bit better and I'm done. Eventually I'd like to replace the proprietary parts in order to perhaps put it up for sale, but I'm not sure about that yet, it's a bit niche, and can't see many people wanting it so it's a lot of effort for very little return.

Anyway, next stop paint! (when my hands stop shaking.)

Do What Thou Wilt... Perdurabo and Choronzon arrive at the Port.

Another couple of ne'er-do-wells have arrived at the Port on an unsanctioned transporter, the notorious Rogue Psyker known as Perdurabo, and his Xenos sidekick, Choronzon:

(Also, sorry for yet another long delay in updating, I've been working on commission jobs recently, and they're all fairly modern and not in keeping with the theme of the blog, so I've not bothered putting them up in here!)

More details and photos of the models after the cut, as usual...

A Squat Inquisimunda Warband (with an unusual associate!)

Time for another fun little project, this time a small Squat warband I've just finished as a commission (hence the lack of basing, the client will be doing that.)

6 Squats, and an Eldar Trader, an unusual mix to be sure, but they work together surprisingly well I think:

Citadel DS9 Dwarf Dragon Slayer

Long time no see, all! Sorry about the lack of updates, but I've not done much recently due to real life rearing it's ugly head and getting in the way.

Anyway, I'm back now, and here's another little vignette piece I've done recently. This time it's the best of both worlds, a Perry dwarf with a Nick Bibby dragon head!

This is a wonderful little set and so much fun to paint. There's a bunch more photos after the cut...

It's Undead time! 1994 GW Zombie Dragon with Lahmian Rider!

So, time for another commission job I've got finished recently, and I really enjoyed painting and converting this one!
